A detail study of the curves and shapes of the Plex typeface.

The glyphs’ varying scale, crop and rotation puts them in a decontextualized state where they exist simply to be admired in this ever-changing matrix of positive and negative forms.

Trichromatic Recursion & Monochromatic Revision

Thin lines are generated in the three standard additive primary colors. Visual output is perceived as also including secondary colors. The color reproduction has thereby moved one level up in the color-theoretical recursive transition network (The display’s pixels being the lowest level).

Modern computer hardware is used to display the animating graphics. Visual output is perceived as looking relatively old, because of aesthetics reminiscent of CRT monitors. The beholder is thereby (hopefully) moved one, or more, levels down their own stack of memories (Their first memory of computer graphics being the lowest level).

Interaction of Color 01 & 02

Arrays of colored rectangles, rotating like bidirectional hands of a clock, obfuscating the visual representation of time in a matter that’s isomorphic to the way the rectangles’ partially blended colors lose their primary characteristics but gain new ones.

Inspired by the cover of Josef Albers’ seminal book “Interaction of Color”.

What Lies Ahead

The occasionally twisting and turning path of life, represented by the visually striking carpet pattern from The Shining, alluding to the bizarre situations we occasionally find ourselves in along the way while moving towards a future that always remains mostly shrouded in darkness.
